Berlin was in the east ( soviet) zone but also divided into 4 so it lead tensions on who should control the city

A

it had been the heart of nazi power, so was importnat to germany and was symbolic

  • good for making military bases ( geographical location)
  • as they’re in the cnetre of europe they would most liekly influence other countries depending on whos side it was on

power, whoever arrived first would be more prestigious
