france wanted to get their colonies back more than anything as it was a way of regaining their pride, so the USA told them they would help them get their colonies back if germany could join NATO
why did the USA want germany to join NATO
because germany was the front line against the eastern block ( soviets ) for NATO
( only way the soviets would be able to attack nato countries would be by passing through west germany so there were thousands of troops permanently stationed)
why doesn’t france want west germany to be in nato
because they’ve already been attacked 3 times by germany in the last 80 years

will go into conflict, and both sides have this, so a war is more likely to happen
