When to use obesity Drugs
BMI of 30 kg/m2 or 27 with comorbid conditions
contraindications
pregnancy, Cardiac disease, HTN, anorexia or history of, closed angle glaucoma, general anesthesia
Orlistat
gastric and pancreatic lipase inhibitor
Orlistat indications
obesity management, weight loss and maintenance in patients who do not feel hungry, that eat out often, have increased CV disease risk
Orlistat contraindications
pregnancy, malabsorption disorders, cholestasis, calcium oxalate kidney stones, anorexia, organ transplant
Orlistat ADR
Diarrhea, Steatorrhea, oily spotting, flatulence with fecal discharge, oily stools, HA
Orlistat serious ADR
hypersensitivity, angioedema, Vit def, lower GI bleed
Orlistat drug interactions
Warfarin, cyclosporine, amiodarone, AEDs, fat soluble vits and thyroid hormone
Lorcaserin MOA
serotonin receptor agonist. that increases satiety
Lorcaserin warnings
serotonin syndrome, valvular heart disease, cognitive impairment, psychiatric disorders, suicide, monitor blood glucose
Lorcaserin interactions
serotonin drugs (triptans, MAOIs, SSRI, SNRI, dextromethorphan
Lorcaserin ADR
HA, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, dry eye, constipation/diarrhea, cough, bradycardia, hyperprolactinemia
Naltrexone/bupropion (contrave) MOA
Nalterxone=opioid antagonist; Bupropion=antidepressant?
Contrave indications
weight loss in obesity or overweight with comorbidity

uncontrolled htn, seizures, chronic opioid use, use of MAOI
