Week 2 (Mitosis) Flashcards
What happens in Prophase (MITOSIS)?
Chromosomes replicated.
Chromosomes contract, smaller/fatter
Centrioles are at end of each cell
Spindle fibers start to form
nuclear membrane breaks down.
What happens in Metaphase (MITOSIS)?
Chromosomes line up at the equator (middle).
Chromatids draw apart from centromere
What happens in Anaphase (MITOSIS)?
Chromosomes attach themselves to spindle fibers
Chromatids move apart to opposite poles of the cell
What happens in Telophase (MITOSIS)?
Chromatids will be new chromosomes for daughter cells.
Spindle fibers break down
Nuclear membrane reforms itself
Cell constricts (divides into 2)- cytokinesis
What happens in Interphase (MITOSIS)?
Rest stage to prepare for replication
DNA makes a copy of itself- ready for prophase
