Lymphatic System Flashcards
State the order of the Lymphatic System.
Lymphatic Capillaries
Lymphatic Vessels
Lymphatic Nodes
Lymphatic Ducts
What is the function of Lymphatic Capillaries?
collects excess fluid from interstitial space, thin walled
What is the function of Lymphatic Vessels?
Drain the excess fluidfrom around the cells/tissues- carry it through the system of thelymph nodes and lymphaticducts into venous blood.
What is the function of Lymphatic Nodes?
Nodes containspecialisedwhite blood cells called lymphocytesthat destroy invading bacteria or viruses.
What is the function of Lymphatic Ducts?
Drain lymph back into the circulatory system.
What is the function of The Lymphatic System?
The lymphatic’s system’s functions are:
. To destroy and remove bacteria by producing lymphocytes(a type ofwhite blood cell
. To filter out bacteria in the lymphnodes.
. To help return excess tissue fluid to blood (fluid balance)
. To absorb and transport fats.
What are the types of Lymphatic Tissue?
. Spleen
. Thymus
. Tonsils
What are the superficial nodes?
submandibular
parotid
prescuplar
inguinal
popliteal
axillary
Where is the submandibular located?
jaw line
Where is the parotid located?
above the eyes/ in head
Where is the prescapular located?
before scapula
Where is the inguinal located?
groin area
Where is the popiteal located?
behind back leg
Where is the axillary located?
behind front leg
What is each node surrounded by?
fibrous connective tissue- capsule
What is the cortex function?
contains lymph nodules- produce lymphocytes
What is the medulla function?
reticular framework, contains phagocyte cells
Where does the thoracic duct empty into?
jugular or crainal vena cava
What are the types of lymphatic tissue?
spleen, thymus and tonsils
Spleen function-
produces lymphocytes
filters foreign materials
Tonsils function-
rings of lymphoid tissue, junction of pharynx- physical defense barrier
Thymus function-
young animals
production of T-lymphocytes
What are the 3 layers of immunity?
physical
innate
accquired
What are the types of B lymphocytes?
memory- memerises antigens / plasma B - secretes antibodies
What do T lymphocytes produce?
cell immune-mediated response, controls B- stem cell in bone marrow
What do B lymphocytes produce?
antibodies, recognition of foreign bodies
Where are T lymphocytes matured?
in thymus
What leucocytes are innate?
neutrophils
monophils
eosinophils
basophils
What leucocytes are accquired?
lymphocytes
What does lymph carry?
lymphocytes
