what are positive symptoms of schizophrenia?
delusions, hallucinations
what are negative symptoms of schizophrenia?
alogia, avolition, affective flattening, ambivalence
what are the subtypes of schizophrenia?
paranoid;
disorganized;
catatonic;
undifferentiated;
residual
note: brief psychotic disorder is psychosis for 1 month
schizophreniform disorder is psychotic up to 6 months
what are haloperidol, chlorpromazine, perphenazine?
the typical antipsychotics/neuroleptics
what are risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, clozapine?
atypical antipsychotics/neuroleptics. Used 90% of the time now
what are some side effects of antipsychotics?
acute dystonia;
akathisia, parkinsonism;
neuroleptic malignant syndrome;
tardive dyskinesia
