Vaccination - Protects from Future Infections Flashcards
1
Q
How can you avoid waiting for your lymphocytes to produce antibodies (can take too long)?
A
Getting a vaccination
2
Q
What does a vaccination involve?
A
Injecting dead or inactive pathogens into your body
3
Q
What do these pathogens carry?
A
Antigens, so even though they’re harmless they still trigger an immune response - lymphocytes produces antibodies to attack them
4
Q
Where do some of the lymphocytes remain?
A
In the blood as memory cells
5
Q
What happens if live pathogens of the same type appear?
A
The antibodies to kill them will be produced much faster and in greater numbers
