What is the difference between obstructive and communicating hydrocephalus?
Obstructive: obstruction to flow through ventricular system
Communicating: failure of absorption by arachnoid villi
What is the treatment for hydrocephalus?
Gold standard:
Ventriculo-peritoneal shunt (V-P )
Or ventriculo-arterial shunt (V-A)
Neuroendoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy

What is a meningioma?
A benign intracranial durally based tumour
What is an acoustic neuroma?
A schwannoma of superior vestibular division of 8th nerve
Associated with neurofibromatosis type 2 (bilateral)
How is an aneurysm treated?
1st line: coiling
- A coil is inserted into the bulge and filled to strengthen the vessel wall
Clipping involves a craniotomy so less used
