What is fragile X syndrome?

A

A genetic condition that causes a range of developmental problems including learning disabilities and cognitive impairment

Caused by changes in gene called Fragile X Messenger Ribonucleoprotein 1 (FMR1) which makes a protein called FMRP that is needed for brain development

What is congenital rubella?

A

Results from maternal infection of rubella during pregnancy

Can cause blindness, sensorineural deafness, heart defects, learning difficulties, microcephaly, poor growth

What is Foetal alcohol syndrome?

A

When the baby is exposed to alcohol during pregnancy

Causes dysmorphic feature: saddle nose, absent filtrum, thin upper lip
as well as: Autism, ADHD, Developmental/learning difficulties, Poor memory, Cognitive deficits

What is bronchialitis?

A

Most commonly caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

Causes narrowing of the lower respiratory tract due to inflammation of the bronchioles and build-up of mucus
