What is croup?
A viral infection of the upper airway, most often a parainfluenza virus
The airway becomes narrow making it hard to breathe and making cough sound like barking
How is croup treated?
A single dose of steroids (Eg. dexamethasone or prednisolone)
How is a viral induced wheeze treated?
With burst therapy oral steroids and respiratory support
What is bronchiolitis?
A lung infection that causes swelling and irritation and a build up of mucus in the bronchioles
At which day of bronchiolitis are symptoms the worst?
At day 4
How is supraventricular tachycardia treated?
With vagal manoeuvres, increasing adenosine doses, or DC cardioversion
What are some signs of severe dehydration in children?
Lethargy, decreased skin turgor, cold to touch, dry mucous membranes, sunken eyes, hypotension, rapid and feeble HR
What are the complications of diabetic ketoacidosis?
Cerebral oedema
Electrolyte abnormalities
