What diseases can cause genital ulceration?

- Syphilis
- Herpes simplex
- Lymphogranuloma veneruem

What is Lymphogranuloma veneruem?
A
Caused by chlamydia when it invades the lymphatic tissue
Ordinary chlamydia is confined to the mucosa

What is non-specific urethritis?
A
Infection of the urethra not caused by gonorrhoea

What causes genital warts?
A
Human papilloma virus (HPV)

What is vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN)?
A
Abnormal cells in the lining of the vagina
- Presents as itching that doesn’t go away or get better
- The skin appears lighter in colour and is thicker
It’s not cancerous

What is molluscum contagiosum?
A
Skin infection caused by poxvirus
- causes round, dome-shaped shiny spots
Clears by itself. Antibiotics given if rash gets infected
Transmitted through direct contact
