Trophic Level Flashcards
What are trophic levels?
Levels in an ecosystem that show how each level gets energy
What is an autotroph?
An organism that can make their own energy and food
What is heterotraph?
An organism that eats other organisms for their energy source
What is a herbivore?
An organism that only eats plants
What is a carnivore?
An organism that only eats other organisms
What is an omnivore?
An organism that eats both plants and other organisms
What is a detritivore?
An organism which feeds on dead organic material
What are keystone species?
A species that has an influential ecological role
What are invasive species?
A non-native species that out-competes other species
What are some important differences between food web and trophic cascade diagram?
- Trophic cascade diagram shows the affects species have one each other
- Food web shows how each species feeds off of others
What are the different levels in a trophic cascade diagram?
(P) - producers
(1) - primary
(2) - secondary
(3) - tertiary
(4) - quaternary
What does a dotted line represent in a trophic cascade?
A non-direct effect
What does a solid line represent in a trophic cascade?
A direct effect
What does a minus sign represent in a trophic cascade?
A negative relationship between two species
What does a plus sign represent in a trophic cascade?
A positive relationship between two species
