Protein Flashcards
What is the first level of protein structure?
Primary - amino acids in a chain
What is the second level of protein structure?
Secondary - hydrogen bonds between carboxyl and amines
What is the third level of protein structure?
Tertiary - 3D, single polypeptide
What is the fourth level of protein structure?
Quaternary - more than one polypeptide chain bonded together
What are the types of amino acids?
-Isoline
-Lysine
-Serine
-Glutamic Acid
What is Lysine?
Basic (+) and has the functional group of Amino
What is Serine?
Polar and has a functional group of Hydroxl
What is Glutamic Acid?
Acidic (-) and has a functional group of Carboxyl
What is Isoline?
Non polar/Hydrophobic and has a functional group of Methol
What is denaturation?
conditions that disrupt hydrogen bonds and ionic bonds
What interactions determine tertiary structure?
Isoline, Lysine, Serine, and Glutamic Acid
What is the function of enzymes?
cut and join the molecules of life
What is the function of hormones?
carry molecular messages through blood
What is the function of transport?
back and forth across membrance
What is the function of infastructure?
support and move cells
