Human Population Growth Flashcards
What is age structure?
Relative number of individuals of each age
What are some factors the affect the population growth rate?
- Sex ratio (# females to # males)
- Generation time
- Age Structure
What is stage 1 in demographic transition?
When the birth rate and death rates are both high
What is generation time?
The age that females reproduce
What is stage 2 in the demographic transition?
Birth rate is high while death rates fall rapidly
What is stage 3 in the demographic transition?
Birth rate is falling while death rates falls more slowly
What stage would a developing country be in?
Stage 1 or 2
What stage would a fully developed country be in?
Stage 4 or 5
What is stage 4 in demographic transition?
Both birth and death rates are low
What is stage 5 in demographic transition?
Birth rate is yet to be seen while death rates are low
What is the growth rate equation?
Birth rate - death rates/1000 multiplied by 100
Birth rate: 14.4
Death rate: 8.5
What is the growth rate?
0.59
How would you determine what type of stage a country would be in?
Looking at their birth and death rates in the years shown
What stage would a growth rate of 0.59 be in?
Stage 4
What would a medium growth rate look like on a graph?
The lines for each generation would be around the same length
What is the age range for post-reproductive?
44-85+
What is the age range for the reproductive age?
15-44
What is the age range for pre -reproduction?
0-14
What kind of graph would show imminent population growth?
One where the length of the lines grow as the generations continue
What is the natural increase and where is it found?
It is the time period where a population is having a drastic amount of growing and it is found where the birth rate is growing greatly while the death rates are very low
