Mitosis Flashcards
What is the order of events in mitosis?
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
Cytokinesis
What occurs in prophase?
Chromosomes condense, nuclear membrane breaks down, and spindle fibers begin to form
What occurs in metaphase?
Spindle fibers from either side attach to each chromosome, chromosomes line up individually along metaphase plate
What occurs in anaphase?
Sister chromatids detach from each other and travel up the spindle fibers to opposite ends of the cell
What occurs in telophase?
Sister chromatids reach opposite ends of the cell, new nuclear membrane forms, chromosome decondense, cytokinesis begins
What occurs in cytokinesis?
Cell membrane is pinched to make two separate cells
What is multipotent?
Found in small #s in body tissue that replaces different tissues
What is pluripotent?
Left over embryos grown into any type of tissue/cell
What is induced pluripotent?
Cells changed to be embryonic cells, works for any cell replacement
What causes the different specialized cells to be different from each other?
Multipotent is only used to replace tissues and induced pluripotent in manually changed/made
