Q

What is Central Dogma?

A

Genetic information flows only one direction, from DNA, to RNA, to protein, or RNA directly to protein

What does the Enhancer do?

A

Act as switch, control if/how RNA is made from a gene

Q

What happens during initiation?

A

TF binds to promoter, attract RNA polymerase to begin copying gene into mRNA

Q

What happens during elongation?

A

RNA Pol breaks free of TF, protective 5’ cap is added to RNA, other proteins splice out introns

Q

What happens during termination?

A

Sequence is recognized and cut, PolyA tail is added
Longer tail = longer mRNA
Cytoplasm = more protein can be made from it

Q

What are the differences between DNA and RNA?

A

DNA: deoxyribose sugar, double stranded, stores genetic information

RNA: ribose sugar, single stranded, message and transport information
