DNA Flashcards
What are the parts of a nucleotide?
- Phosphate
- Sugar
- Nitrogenous base
What what the procedure for the Griffith and what did he find?
He injected mice with pneumonia and found that bacteria can be passed to other molecules
What was the procedure for Avery, MacLeod, + McCarty and what did they find?
Put different groups like protein and DNA and found that DNA was the only one to not transform after being destroyed
What was the procedure for Hershey + Chase and what did they find?
Saw bacteria takes control of a molecule and that is what allows it to reproduce
What is the structure of a DNA molecule?
Double helix
What are some similarities between DNA and RNA?
They both have nitrogen bases, sugar, phosphate backbone, has A, G, and C
What are some differences between DNA and RNA?
DNA: deoxyribose sugar, double stranded, stores genetic information
RNA: ribose sugar, single stranded, message and transport information
What bases are the same %?
A and T, C and G
If C is 25%, what would G be?
25%
