The Sicatic Nerve, the tibial nerve and the common fibular nerve Flashcards
What are the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve?
L4-S3
What muscles does the scitatic nerve innervate?
The muscles of the posterior thing, and the hamstring portion of the adductor magnus
How does the sciatic nerve terminate?
Branches into the tibial and common fibular nerves
How would you give an intramuscular injection with reference to the sciatic nerve?
You would make a quadrant from the highest point of the ilac crest to and between the highest point on the iliac crest and the ischial tuberosity
What are some of the cutaneous braches of the sciatic nerve?
The sural nerve, the deep fibular nerve , the superficial nerves and the medial calcneal branches
What are the nerve roots of the tibial nerve?
L4-s3
What skin does the tibial nerve innervate?
The skin of the posteriolateral side of leg, lateral side of the foot and the sole of the foot.
Where does the tibial nerve pass in relation to the medial malleous?
Passess posteriorly and inferiorly to the medial malleous
What is tarsal tunnel syndrome?
Occurs when the tibial nerve is compressed wihtin the tarsal tunnell, and this can occur by osteoarthitis, rhematoid arthitis, and past trauma or deformities
What are some of the sensory nerves that are given off from the tibial nerve?
The surl nerve, the medial calcaneal nerve, the medial plantar nerve and the lateral plantar surfaces
What are the nerve routes of the comon fibular nerve?
L4-s3
What does the common fibular nerve innervate?
The short head of the biceps femoris directly, and also goes on to innervate the muscles in the anterior and lateral compartments of the leg directly
Which two cutanoeous nerves come directy from the common fibular nerve?
The sural communicating nerve, and the lateral sural nerve
