Muscles Of The Leg Flashcards
What do the muscles of the anterior leg do?
They act to dorsiflex and invert the foot
What are the muscles of the anterior leg supplied by?
Innervated by the deep fibular nerve (L4-L5)
Name the muscles of the anterior leg?
The tibalis anterior, the extensor digitorum longus, and the extesnor hallicus longus, and the fibularis tetris
What supplies the blood to the anterior leg?
The anterior tibial artery
What is the origin and insertion of the tibials anterior?
Originates from lateral surface of the tibia, attaches to the medial cuneiform, and base of the foot.
What does the tibilas anterior do?
It dorsiflexes and inverts the foot
What is the origin and insertion of the extensor digitorum longus?
Originates from the lateral condyle of the tibia and the medial surface of the fibula.
What are the actions of the extesnor digitrum longus?
Extension of the lateral four toes, and dorsiflexion of the foot
What is the origin and insertion of the extensor hallicus longus?
Orignates from the medial surface of the fibular shaft, tendon crosses anterior to the ankle joint and attaches to the distal phalynx of the great toe
What is the action of the extensor hallicus longus?
Extension of the great toe and dorsiflexion of the foot
What is the origin and insertion of the fibularis tetris?
Arises from the most inferior part of the EDL, from the medial surface of the fibular, diverted and attaches to metatarsal V.
What causes footdrop and what are some of the clinical features?
Most commonly seen in damage to the common fibular nerve, and you see unopposed plantarflexion and therefore you see an eversion flick while walking
Name the muscles in the lateral comparment of the leg:
The fibularis longus and brevis
What are the actions of muscles in the lateral compartment of the leg?
Eversion and prevention of excessive invversion of the legs
What is the innervation of muscles in the lteral compartment of the leg?
The superficial compartment of the leg, L4-S1
