What are the arches of the foot?
The medial and lateral longitudinal arch, and the lateral arch
What are the features of the medial arch of the foot?
The higher of the two longitudinal arches, it is fromed by the clalneus, talus and navicular, and the three cunieforms, and the first three metatarsal bones. It has musuluar support from the tibials anterior and posertior and ligamentus sipport from the plantar ligaments
What are the features of the lateral arches?
Flatter of the two arches, and lies on the ground in the standing positon, muscular support from the fibularis lonuds and the flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallicus, and the intrinsic foot muscles, ligaments support from the plantar ligaments and the medial ligament
What are some of the features of the tranverse arch of the foot?
Formed by the metatarsal bones, the cuboid n the cuneiform bone, the muscular support is from the fibularis longus nd tibilas posterior, and the ligamentus support is from the plantar ligaments and the deep transverse metatarsal ligaments.
What are some of the features of pes cavus?
This can be described as high arches, a unusually high medial and longitudinal arch, appears early in life and become symtomatic with increasing age. Pain in foot which can radiate up, can be idiopathic heredity, and a sign of another foot problem such as club foot.
What are some of the features of pes planus?
A common condition in which the longitudinal arches have been lost, being flat footed usually causes few or any symptoms but may involve the use of supporting inserts
