Muscles Of The Gluteal Region Flashcards
What are the superficial muscles of the gluteal region?
Gluteus maximus, gleutues medius, gleutus minimus and the tensor fascia lata
Which are the muscles that insert into the greater trachnater in the geluteal region?
The gluteus maximus, the gluteus meduis, the ggelutues minimus.
Where do the gletues maximus, minimus and medius originate?
The gluteal surface of the ilium
What is the innervation of the gletueus maximus?
Innervation is the inferior gluteal nerve
What is the innervation of the geltueus medius and minimus?
The superior gluteal nerve
What is the action of the gluteus Maximus?
Main extesnor at the hip,
What are the actions of the geutus medius And minimus ?
Abducts and medially rotates the limb, and during locomotion stabilises the pelvis
Where does the tensor fascia lata originate and insert?
Orignates from the iliac crest and attachs to the ASIS and the ilitibial tract
What happens in damage to the superior gluteal nerve and how can you test for this?
The gleuteus medius and minimus no longer have innervation and these act to stabilise the pelvis during locomtion, and the trendleberg sign, where when a patient stands on one leg the unsupported limb drops can be used to be test for this
What are the deep muscles of the gleuteal region of the limb?
Piriformis, the obtuator internus the superior and inferior gemelli,
Where do the deep muscles of the gleutal region attach?
The greater trochanter
Where does the piriformis orignate?
The anterior surface of the sacrum
Where does the obturrtor internus?
Orignates from the pubis and the ischium,.
Where do the gemelli (superior and inferior) orignate?
The superior gemellus oringates from the ischial spine, and the ingerior from the ischial tuberosity
What are the nerves involved in the deep geluteal region?
The nerve to the piriformis, the nerve to the obtuator internus, the. Two gemelli are inneverated by each of these
