The Extrinsic Muscles Of The Shoulder Flashcards
What are the two superficial muscles of the shoulder?
The trapezius and the latissimus dorsi.
What are the origins of the trapezius?
Skull, ligamentum nuchae and the spinous processes of C7-T12, and fibres attach to the clavicle, acromion and the scapular spine
What is the innervation of the trapezius?
Motor innervation from the accessory nerve and the proporioreceptro fibres from C3 and C4
What are the actions of the trapezius?
Upper fibres elevate the scapula, and rotates it during abduction, and middle fibres retract the scapula and pull it anteriorly.
What are the orgins and insertions of the latissimus dorsi?
Arises from the spinous proccesses of T10-T12, illac crest and the thoracolumbar fascia, and inferior three ribs and the fibres converge into the tendon.
What is the innervation of the Latissimus dorsi?
The thoracodorsal nerve.
What are the actions of the latissimus dorsi?
Extends, adducts and medially rotates the lower limb
What are the deep extrinsic muscles of the shoulder?
The levator scapulae, the rhomboid major and the rhomboid minor
What are the origins and insertions of the levator scapulae?
Originates from the transverse processes of the C1-C4 vertebrae, and inserts to the medial border of the scapula
What is the innervation of the Levator Scapulae ad the rhomboid major, and the rhomboid minor?
Dorsal Scapular Nerve
What does the levator scapuae do?
Elevates the scapula
What is the origin and insertion of the rhomboid major?
Orgniates from the spinous processes of the T2-T5 vertebrae and attaches to the medial border of the scapula, between the scapular sign and the medial border
What is the origin and insertion of the Rhomboid minor?
Orginates from the spinous process of the C7-t1 vertebrae
What does the rhomboid minor do?
It rotates and retracts the scapula
