The Muscles Of The Pectoral Region Flashcards
What are the three muscles in the pectoral region?
The pec major, the pec minor and the serratus anterior
What are the two heads of the pec major called?
Calvicular head, and sternocostal head
Where are the origin and insertions of the pectoralis major?
Clavicular head arises from the medial head of clavicle, whereas the sternocostal head arises from???? they both have the distal attahcement of the Intertubular sulcus of the humerus.
Where does the pectoralis minor orginante and insert?
Orginates from the 3rd to 5th ribs and inserts on the coracoid process of scapula
What is the innervation of the pectoralis minor?
The medial pectoral nerve, C8- T1
What is the innervation of the pectoralis major?
The lateral and medial pectoral nerves, clavicular head C5-C6 and sternocostal head is C7-T1
What is the origin of the serratus anterior?
Several strips originating from ribs 2-8, attach to the costal surface of the medial scapula
What is the innervation of the serratus anterior?
The long thoraic nerve
What are the clinical relevances of these sets of muscles?
Wining of the scapula involves the serratus anterior and the long thoraic nerve, can be caused by an exicision of the axillary lymph nodes
