Muscles Of Anteriror Forearm Flashcards
What is the common origin of the muscles in the superficial compartment of the forearm?
The medial epicondyle of the humerus
What nerve innervates most of the anterior forearm and what are the two exceptions?
The median nerve, and the two exceptions are the flexor carpi ularis and the medial half of the flexor digitorum profundus
What are the four superficial muscles of the anterior forearm (medial to lateral)?
Flexor carpi ulnaris, Palmaris longus, flexor carpi radilas and the pronator teres
Where does the felcor carpi ulnaris insert?
The pisiform
What are the actions of the flexor carpi ulnaris?
Flexion and adduction of the wrist
Where does the plamaris longus insert?
The flexor retinaculum
Where does the flexor carpi radilas insert?
Inserts to the base of metacarpals II and III
What are the actions of the fexor carpi radilas?
Flexion and adduction of the wrist
What are the origins and insertions of the felxor digitorum sperficalus?
One head from the medial epicondyle of the humerus and the other from the radius
What is the action of the flexor digitorum superficialus?
Flexors the metacarpophalengea joints, and the proximal interpharlengeal joints as well as felxing at the wrist
What is the origin and insertion of the felxor digitroum profundus?
Origin is the ulna and the associated interosseous membrane, and insertions into the distal phalenges of the four fingers
What is the action of the flexor digitorum profundus?
Can flex the distal interphalengeal joints of the four fingers
What is the origin and insertion of the flexor pollicus longus?
Orignates from the antterior surface of the radius and the assoicated interosseous membrane, and attaches to the pase of the ditstal pahlynx of the thumb
What is the acytion of the felxor pollicus longus?
Flexes at the interphaengeal joint and the metacarpophalengeal joint
Where does the pronotor wuadratus orignate and insert?
Orignates from the anterior surface of the ulna and ataches to the anterior surface of the radius
