The Fermoral Canal and the adductor canal Flashcards
What are the borders of the femoral canal?
Medial border is the lacunar ligament, the lateral border is the femoral vein, and anterior border is the inguinal ligament, posterior border is the pectineal ligament, superior ramus of the pubis, and pectineus muscle
What are the contents of the femoral canal?
Lymphatic vessels, and draining the deep inguinal lymph nodes, deep lymph nodes such as the lacunar lymph nodes, and empty space which allows for distension of the adjacent femoral wall.
What are some of the features of a femoral hernia?
A hernia is defined as when a internal part of the body pushes through the a weakness in the surrounding tissue wall, which presents as a lump, inferiorlaterally to the pubic tubercule, and is more common in women as they have a wider pelvis
What are some of the issues regarding a femoral hernia?
The femoral canal is quite tough and non extensible for the bowel can be compressed and become stragnulated.
What is the adductor canal?
Serves as a passageway for structures moving between the anterior thigh and the posterior leg.
What are the borders of the anterior canal?
Anterior the sartiorus, the lateral Vastus medials, the posterior is the adductor long-us and the adductor Magnus, and the apex of the adductor canal is provided by the adductor hiatus
What does the adductor canal contain?
The femoral artery, the femoral nerve, nerve to the vastus medialus and the sapheounous nerve
What is the clinical significane of the adductor canal?
Can eb used in an adductor canal block, or is generally involved in the adductor canal compression syndrome
