The Nervous System Flashcards
What does CNS stand for
Central nervous system
Why is having a nervous system important
It is important because it allows our bodies to respond to the environment
What 2 thing form the cns
Brain and spinal chord
What does PNS stand for
Peripheral nervous system
What is the pns made up from
Receptors, sensory and motor neurons
How is the brain connected to the peripheral nervous system
Spinal chord is a long bundle of nerve which branches out between the vertebrae’s to different parts of the body.
What fluid is the cns surrounded by
It’s surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid which acts as a shock absorber
What is the first stage to generation a response
Receptors detect the stimuli
What is the second stage to generating a response
Impulses get sent along the sensory neuron to the spinal chords
What is the third stage to generating a response
The CNS integrates the information and, if necessary, sends it to the brain for processing Prior to initiating response
What is the fourth stage in initiating a response
Impulses is sent from the cns along the motor neurons to the effector
What happens in the fifth stage of creating a response to stimuli
Effector then finally generates the response
