Animal Tissue Types Flashcards
What is a cell ?
A basic structural and functional unit of an organism .
What is a tissue ?
A group of cells with similar structures that work together to perform a shared function.
What is an organ ?
It is a structure made up of different tissues that work together to perform specific functions.
What is an organ system?
A group of organs with related functions.
What are the 4 basic types of tissues ?
Epithelial, connective, nervous, muscle.
What is the function of epithelial tissue ?
It lines the body ur faces, cavities and tubules. It also s important in absorption, secretion and protection.
What is the function of connective tissue ?
It supports body part and connects them together.
What is the function of nervous tissue ?
It conducts nerve impulses by reacting to stimuli. It is als important in co-ordinating bodily functions.
What is the function of muscle tissue ?
It allows the body to move. It also allows movement of individual structures within the body.
Give 4 examples of specialised animal tissue.
Cartilage, ciliated epithelium, squamous epithelium and uncle tissue.
What is cartilage tissue ?
It is a strong tissue that is used to make tendons, bone and connective tissue.
What is ciliated epithelium ?
A tissue made from ciliated cells and goblet cells. The goblet cells produce much and the cilia waft the mucus away from the lungs.
What is squamous epithelium ?
As tissue made from smooth, flattened cell. It lines the inside of blood vessels and alveoli.
What is muscle tissue ?
Tissue is made of many muscle cells that all contract in the same direction.
