Q

What is atp and adp ?

A

ATP is a nucleotide. When atp is converted to adp it releases energy and an in organic phosphate molecule. This energy is available for cell processes such as muscle contraction.

Q

Why is endocytosis important ? (Into the cell)

A

It is important because most molecules needed for the cell to survive cannot normally pass through the plasma membrane. Phagocytosis and pinocytosis are types of endocytosis.

Q

What is the difference between pinocytosis and phagocytosis ?

A

They are the same except the cells plasma membrane surrounds droplets of fluid containing dissolved solutes.

Q

What is exocytosis ? (Out of the cell)

A

Material is exported out of the cell via secretory vehicles. This is important removing waste materials from the cell and secreting cellular product eg enzymes or hormones.

Q

What is phagocytosis ?

A

In this the cells plasma membrane surrounds a molecule such as a food particle. In the extra cellular environment and buds off to form a vacuole that contains a molecule which is then digested by enzymes.
