The Circulatory System Flashcards
What is another word for the circulatory system
Cardiovascular system
What are the three types of blood vessels
Arteries, veins, and capillaries
what are arteries
They carry oxygenated blood at high pressure from the heart to parts of the body so they have a thick layer of elastic tissue in the wall
What are veins
They carry deoxygenated blood at lower pressure from the body back to the heart so have less elastic tissue than arteries. Valves stop the blood from flowing backwards
What are capillaries
They have symbols that allowed to change of compounds such as nutrients, glucose, oxygen and CO2 between blood and tissue
What type of heart do mammals and birds have
They have a 4 chambered heart which is very efficient as it does not allow oxygenated and deoxygenated to mix.
Is the largest Artery
the aorta
which Side of the heart is more muscular
The left side
