Connective Tissue Flashcards
What are the three main types of connective tissues ?
Loose connective tissue, dense connective tissue and specialised connective tissue.
What is loose connective tissue ?
It stores fat and provides insulation, it is mainly found under the skin, around the heart, kidneys, and mammary glands. It protects organs, blood vessels and nerves, allows for a passage for nerves and blood vessels through other tissues. It also gives strength to epithelial tissue. It is also mainly found under all epithelial tissue.
What is dense connective tissue ?
It attaches bone to bones and provides support to joints it also attaches muscle to bones. This is commonly found in ligaments and tendon.
What is specialised connective tissue ?
It forms the skeleton, transports substances around the body and prevents the collapse of the trachea and bronchi. It is commonly found in the skeleton, cardiovascular system and in between ribs and the sternum.
Name 3 types of specialised connective tissue.
Bone, cartilage ad blood.
Name 2 types of dense connective tissue.
Fibrous and elastic fibres
2 types of loose connective tisse
Adipose and areolar.
