SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS OF THE LEG Flashcards

1
Q

for the knee:

o Inability to dorsiflex foot the necessary 10⁰ needed for normal propulsion
o Body attempts to gain additional dorsiflexion by hyper-extending knee (genu recurvatum)
o Hyper-extended knee internally rotates → causing pronation at STJ to free up some dorsiflexion

Q

for the knee:

o More impact at heel strike from decreased shock absorption due to decreased pronation of STJ
o Results in impact of heel contact being transmitted through leg
o Knee may be traumatized due to impact at knee joint

Q

▪ Secondary to biomechanical problem causing a muscle group to work harder or a tight muscle group
▪ Pain due to micro tearing of muscle away from tibial attachment (irritation of myofascial junction)
▪ Pain present upon activity or palpation to area
▪ Rule out stress fracture as the cause of patient’s symptoms

A

Shin Splints
