MAJOR EVENTS MIDSTANCE PERIOD Flashcards
Acceleration
of STJ Supination
and External Leg Rotation
Posterior calf muscles are agonists and accelerate STJ supination and external leg rotation
Gastrocnemius accelerates external rotation of the femur
During the last half of midstance the Fibularis Longus and Fibularis Brevis function as antagonists to the
calf muscles
Deceleration of Forward Momentum
of the Tibia and Knee
Extension
Muscles that decelerate are the Tibialis posterior, Soleus, Flexor Digitorum Longus, Flexor Hallucis Longus with some help from the Fibularis Longus
Gastrocnemius maintains flexion tension at the knee
Stabilization of the Bones of the Lesser
Tarsus
Early in midstance - Soleus, Tibialis Posterior, Fibularis Longus and Fibularis Brevis are responsible
Stabilization of the Metatarsus - 1st ray
Fibularis Longus
Abductor Hallucis and Flexor Hallucis Brevis
Stabilization
of the Metatarsus -
2nd, 3rd, 4th rays
- Flexor Digitorum Longus and Tibialis Posterior
- Fibularis Longus and Tibialis Posterior
- Soleus
