POSTERIOR COMPARMENT M ACTIONS (PERIODS) Flashcards
At the end, assists the Tibialis Posterior and the Soleus in decelerating internal rotation of lower extremity
Gastrocnemius Muscle
CONTACT
Assists Tibialis Posterior, Soleus and in supinating the STJ and externally rotating the femur
Gastrocnemius Muscle
MIDSTANCE
Also will flex the knee and lift the heel to initiate propulsion
Assists other muscles (soleus) that supinate the STJ and MTJ
Gastrocnemius Muscle
PROPULSION
Stabilize the lateral aspect of the foot by plantarflexing it against the ground
Soleus Muscle
CONTACT
Assists the Tibialis Posterior, FHL and FDL to extend the knee by decelerating the forward momentum of the tibia, but accelerates external tibial rotation causing STJ supination
Soleus Muscle
MIDSTANCE
Assists the Soleus in deceleration of STJ pronation and internal leg rotation
Assists the Soleus, FHL and FDL to decelerate the forward momentum of the leg producing knee extension
Tibialis Posterior Muscle
CONTACT
Deceleration of the leg continues here - knee extension
Acceleration of STJ supination and external leg rotation with Soleus, FDL, and FHL.
Maintains stability of all the lesser tarsal and metatarsal bones in a medial-posterior direction
Tibialis Posterior Muscle
MIDSTANCE
Assists in heel lift by decelerating the forward motion of the tibia and stopping ankle joint dorsiflexion with the Soleus, FDL, FHL
Tibialis Posterior Muscle
PROPULSION
Assists the Soleus and FDL with deceleration of the forward momentum of the tibia contributing to knee extension
Assists the Tibialis Posterior, Soleus, FDL, and Gastrocnemius with acceleration of STJ supination and external leg rotation
Flexor Hallucis Longus Muscle
MIDSTANCE
Assists Soleus, Tibialis Posterior, and FDL with deceleration of
forward momentum of the tibia contributing to heel lift
Maintains stability of the hallux against the ground - hallux must be a rigid beam by the extensor mechanism
Assists in proximal stabilization of the phalanges of the
hallux - first MPJ and sesamoids act as pulleys
Assists the Gastrocnemius, FDL and Tibialis Posterior with plantarflexion at the ankle joint
Assists Abductor Hallucis and FDL with OMTJ supination
Flexor Hallucis Longus Muscle
PROPULSION
Decelerate STJ pronation and internal leg rotation
Flexorm Digitorum Longus Muscle
CONTACT
Decelerate the forward momentum of the tibia contributing to knee extension
Accelerate STJ supination and external leg rotation
Stabilize posteriorly the phalanges of the lesser digits against the lesser met heads
Flexor Digitorum Longus Muscle
MIDSTANCE
Decelerate forward momentum of the tibia and ankle joint dorsiflexion contributing to heel off
Maintain stability of lesser digits against the ground
Stabilize posteriorly the phalanges of the lesser digits against the lesser met heads
Assist with ankle joint plantarflexion during propulsion
Assist in OMTJ supination
Flexor Digitorum Longus Muscle
PROPULSION
