ANKLE DORSIFLEXION Flashcards
o Results in inability to dorsiflex ankle joint 10⁰ with STJ in neutral position required for normal gait
*Must make sagittal plane motion somewhere
o Made up at STJ through pronation
Congenitally or developmentally short gastroc
o Results in knee being held in flexed position → tilts tibia forward
o Causes a need for greater ankle joint dorsiflexion for propulsion
▪ Normal ankle joint may not provide adequate ROM
o STJ pronation compensation in sagittal plane → providing needed dorsiflexion at STJ
Congenitally or developmentally short hamstrings
o Same effect as tight hamstrings → knee flexion
o STJ pronation to compensate → extra dorsiflexion obtained at STJ
• Congenitally or developmentally shortened iliopsoas
