ANTERIOR TIBIAL M Flashcards
when does the anterior tibial m. have its first peak of activity during the stance phase?
after toe off in the propulsive period
and contact period (most profound)
what is the function of the anterior tibial m. during propulsion period?
assists in dorsiflexion of the foot at toe off so the toes can clear ground
what is the function of the anterior tibial m. during contact period?
decelerates ankle joint plantarflexion at heel strike and until forefoot is fully loaded
-reduces posterior shear
supinates forefoot around the LMTJ inverting forefoot leading to compensation for calcaneal eversion (STJ pronation)
smooth loading of forefoot from lateral to medial due to decrease in forefoot inversion
when does the anterior tibial muscle have peak activity during the swing phase?
after toe off
function of the anterior tibial during the swing phase?
accelerates ankle joint dorsiflexion during swing
supinates the forefoot at LMTJ and dorsiflexes the 1st ray
what happens if the anterior tibial muscle isn’t working?
foot slap
