ANTERIOR COMPARTMENT M ACTIONS (PERIODS) Flashcards
Decelerates ankle joint plantarflexion at heel strike and until the forefoot is fully loaded
When relaxing it allows for smooth loading of the forefoot from lateral to medial due to a decrease in forefoot inversion
Tibialis Anterior
M. - CONTACT
Assists in dorsiflexion of the foot at toe off so the toes can clear the ground
Tibialis Anterior M.- PROPULSION
Supinates the forefoot at the LMTJ and dorsiflexes the first ray
Weak supinator of the entire foot
Tibialis Anterior M.- SWING
Assists in deceleration of the foot at heel strike
Extensor Hallucis Longus M-CONTACT
Provides extension stability along with the Extensor Hallucis Brevis at the 1st MPJ
Turns hallux into a rigid beam
Extensor Hallucis Longus M-PROPULSION
Strongest ankle joint dorsiflexor - most responsible for rapid ankle joint dorsiflexion so the foot can clear the ground
Neutral dorsiflexor having little effect on the STJ
Extensor Hallucis Longus M- SWING
Assists the lumbricales in developing extensor rigidity of the IPJs during propulsion in each lesser digit
Creates rigid beam of digits for propulsion
Extensor Digitorum Longus M-PROPULSION
Prevent excessive supination of the foot during the swing phase by exerting a pronatory force (Antagonist)
Extensor Digitorum Longus M-SWING
