POSTERIOR COMPARTMENT MA Flashcards
Flex knee and lift heel, assist in decelerating internal
rotation and supination of the STJ, supinator of the STJ and MTJ
Gastrocnemius Muscle
Stabilizer of the lateral column by exerting a PF force.
Soleus Muscle
STJ supinator (most important STJ supinator)
Functions early in contact because it can work as soon as 5th met touches the ground
Serves to decelerate STJ pronation and internal leg rotation during contact (with help from soleus)
Accelerates STJ supination and external leg rotation during midstance (assisted by soleus and long digital flexors)
Tibialis Posterior Muscle
No GRF on hallux until end of contact
Maintains stability of hallux against ground during propulsion (primary role)
Flexor Hallucis Longus Muscle
Begins function slightly before FHL because lesser digits contacts ground first
Applies posterior compression on phalanges of lesser digits against met heads during midstance and propulsion
Good supinator (plantarflexor and adductor) of forefoot relative to rearfoot
Flexor Digitorum Longus Muscle
