COMPENSATORY PRONATION Flashcards
1
Q
- Forefoot inverted in relation to rearfoot (osseous, structural)
- Compensation is eversion of rearfoot to bring medial aspect of foot to ground
*Results in STJ pronation greater than what is needed for normal ambulation
A
Forefoot varus
2
Q
• is everted in relation to rearfoot, but not rigidly fixed in valgus
A
Non-rigid forefoot Valgus
3
Q
- Tibia is angled in varus on the frontal plane
- Causes heel to be inverted in relation to the ground
- Also results in inversion of forefoot to the ground
- STJ pronates to bring medial aspect of foot to ground
A
Tibial Varum
4
Q
• May occur with tibial varum
• Neutral position of STJ results in an inverted calcaneus
o Results in forefoot also being inverted (like tibial varum)
o Tibial and rearfoot varus add to each other for total varus position
• STJ pronates to bring medial side of foot to the ground
A
Rearfoot Varus
5
Q
- Entire lower limb is internally rotated when hip is neutral in transverse plane
- Normal compensation is abduction of foot on leg
A
Internally Rotated Limb
6
Q
- Congenitally or developmentally short gastroc
- Congenitally or developmentally short hamstrings
- Congenitally or developmentally shortened iliopsoas
A
Ankle Dorsiflexion
7
Q
One limb is longer than the opposite
A
Limb Length
