Major Salivary Glands
Minor Salivary Glands!
How are salivary glands categorized?
Based on size, location, and the histochemical nature of what they secrete
What are the three major salivary glands?
- Parotid glands
- Submandibular glands
- Sublingual glands
What are the three classes of minor salivary glands?
- Labial and buccal glands

Parotid glands secrete saliva into the stensons ducts
What are stensons ducts?
Canals that exit the buccinator muscles near the buccal of the first and second maxillary molars, by the occlusal surface
Describe the activation of the parotid gland
Stimulated by spicy foods and automatically by the parasympathetic nervous system
Describe the blood supply of the parotid gland
From branches of the external carotid artery and empties into the jugular vein
