Development of Cementum Flashcards
When do adjacent epithelial root sheath cells deteriorate and break away?
What does it look like?
- Once dentin forms
- Swiss cheese
What happens to epithelial root sheath cells once dentin forms?
They deteriorate and break away (looks like Swiss cheese)
What do dental sac cells change into?
Why?
- Cementoblasts
- Openings in the sheath
What happens when there are openings in the sheath?
Outside dental sac cells change into cementoblasts
How do cementum-forming cells move?
Through holes to begin forming cementum. The CEJ is now formed.
The cementum is formed by what layer of dental sac cells?
First
What does the first layer of dental sac cells form?
Cementum
The periodontal ligament fibers are formed by what layer of dental sac cells?
Second (middle) layer
What does the second (middle) layer of dental sac cells form?
Periodontal ligament fibers (Sharpey’s fibers)
What happens to the the ends of periodontal ligament fibers?
Embed themselves within cementum and calcify
