Mandibular Division: Lingual nerve Flashcards
1
Q
What does the lingual nerve supply?
A
- Floor of the mouth
- Lingual mandibular gingiva
- Anterior two thirds of the tongue
2
Q
Size of the lingual nerve?
A
One of the largest branches of the mandibular division
3
Q
What nerve joins the lingual nerve?
Where does it join?
A
- Branch from the seventh cranial nerve, chorda tympani
- Not too far below the foramen ovale
4
Q
What does the chorda tympani supply?
What kind of fibers does it have?
A
- Parasympathetic (secretomotor) fibers
- Supplies submandibular and sublingual salivary glands, and carries special fibers of taste perception from the anterior two thirds of the tongue
5
Q
Consequences of chorda tympani joining lingual nerve
A
There are nerve 5 and nerve 7 fibers of the floor of the mouth, look like one nerve. Lose sensation and taste sensation in the anterior two thirds of the tongue if they anesthetize the lingual nerve by accident.
