Dental Landmarks Flashcards
Cingulum
Bulge of enamel found on the cervical third of the lingual surface of an anterior tooth
Cusp
Cusp of Carabelli
Fifth cusp
Lingual surface of max. first molars
Not everyone has one
Fissure
Fault occurring along a developmental groove
Caused by incomplete joining of the lobes
Two fissure cross to form a pit
Fossa
A depression on the surface of a tooth
Lingual fossa
A depression on the lingual surface of an incisor or cuspid
Central fossa, max. molars
Valley in central portion of occlusal surface of max. molar
Central fossa, mandibular molars
Valley in central portion of the occlusal surface of a mandibular molar
Triangular fossa
Comparatively shallow pyramid-shaped depression on the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth, located just within the mesial and/or distal marginal ridges
Groove
Linear depression on the surface of a tooth
Developmental groove
Groove formed by the union of two lobes during development of the crown
Supplemental groove
Irregular, indistinct
Don’t indicate any major divisions of a tooth
Incisal edge
Formed by junction of linguoincisal surfaces of an anterior tooth
Forms angle with the labial surface
Lobe
Developmental segment of the tooth
As they develop, they form a single unit
Mamelon
3 conves on the incisal ridge of a newly erupted incisor
Soon disappear as a result of wear
