- shows full anatomical root

- shows teeth from a vertical point of view
- going out of style w/ advances in technology
panorex/panoramic x-ray
- shows both arches in full
- not a ton of detail, but provides lots of good info
cone beam x-ray
- 3d x-ray
- costs over $100,000 !!
cephalometric x-ray
- full cranial x-ray
- used in orthodontics
Two Types of Fillings
Direct and indirect
Direct filling
performing a filling for a pt. right then and there
Indirect filling
taking an impression, making a restoration on a dental model, then the restoration is cemented/bonded in place
Types of direct fillings
- Amalgam (silver)
2. Composite
Amalgam filling
mercury is combined with alloy. used as a filling material and held in mechanically by the shape of the preparation.
Composite filling (direct)
tooth-colored filling that is bonded to the tooth. composite is a term for a wide range of dental materials that are tooth-colored.

- Composite
- Porcelain
