Cranial Nerves Flashcards
Two main divisions of the nervous system
Central and peripheral
What does the CNS consist of?
Spinal cord, brain
What does the PNS consist of?
All nerves that extend outward from the brain or spinal cord
What sort of functions do cranial nerves have?
Parasympathetic
Functions of cranial nerve V:
- Trigeminal nerve
- Innervation of the skin of the anterior face and head
Ophthalmic Division of Trigeminal Nerve.
Describe its location.
What does it supply?
- V1
- Leaves the skull through the superior orbital fissure and enters the orbital cavity
- Supplies the skin above the eye and up into the forehead
Maxillary Division of the Trigeminal Nerve.
Describe its distribution.
- V2
- Follows the distribution pattern of the maxillary artery (i.e. upper teeth and oral cavity)
The first two divisions of the trigeminal nerve (_____ & ______) are purely ______ and not _____ nerves.
V1 = Ophthalmic
V2 = Maxillary
Sensory, not motor.
