Sagittal Plexus/Pelvis Flashcards
3 Bones of Coxal Bones
Ilium (sup)
Ischium (inf)
Pubis (ant)
Acetabulum
Concave site where 3 coxal bones meet and head of femur sits
4 Parts of Bony Pelvis
L and R Coxal Bones, Sacrum, Coccyx
Sacrotuberous Ligament
Travels from sacrum to ischial tuberosity
Ischial Tuberosity
Big rounded edge at inferior/anterior surface of ischium
Sacrospinous Ligament
Travels from sacrum to ischial spine
Ischial Spine
Bump separating greater and lesser sciatic notch
Path of Perineal-Directed Structures
Come out of sacrum through greater sciatic foramen, but then loop around and go through lesser sciatic foramen
Obturator foramen
Opening between ischium and pubis, mainly filled w/ ligament so actual foramen is quite small
Arcuate Line of Ilium
Smooth rounded border on internal surface of ilium
Posterior Superior Iliac Spine
Sticks out above sacrum
Posterior Inferior Iliac Spine
Sticks down into greater sciatic notch
Anterior Vertical Plane of Pelvis
Anterior superior iliac spines and pubic tubercles
Transverse Plane of Pelvis
Superior border of pubic symphysis and ischial spines
6 Sex Differences Between Males/Females
- Flare of the ilia - F: out laterally, M: upright
- Shape of pelvic inlet (sup. aperture) - F: rounder, M: oval or heart-shaped
- Pelvic outlet (inf. aperture) - F: coccyx bent back to make it larger, M: coccyx bent inwards so its smaller
- Pelvic arch - F: wider and broader, M: V-shaped
- Obturator foramen - F; oval and narrower, M: rounder
- Shape of sacrum
Floor of pelvis
Pelvic diaphragm
Tendinous arch
Kind of wide U that makes up lat. and ant. borders of pelvic diaphragm
Obturator internus
Makes up lateral wall of pelvic bowl, then bends 90 deg around ischial spine and heads down to femur
Piriformis muscle
Runs along sup. post. wall of pelvic bowl
Urogenital Hiatus
Hole in ant/inf pelvic musculature for urethra to pass through
Anococcygeal Raphe
Line where 2 halves of pelvic diapharagm join together
2 Parts of Pelvic Diaphragm
Levator ani m. and coccygeus m.
3 Muscles of Levator Ani (Med-Lat)
Puborectalis, pubococcygeus, and iliococcygeus
Coccygeus Muscle
Runs b/w levator ani muscles and piriformis
Rectal Peritoneal Relationships (2)
Retroperitoneal - Upper 2/3
Infraperitoneal - Lower 1/3
Folds of Houston
Transverse rectal folds
Skeletal Muscle of Anus
Levator ani
Pectinate Line
Where anal columns meet anal sinuses
White Line of Hilton
Line in anus where it changes from rectal epithelium to skin epithelium
Anal Columns Function
Allow for tighter closure of anus
3 Blood Supplies to Rectum
Superior rectal a. off inf. mesenteric a.
Middle rectal a. off internal iliac a.
Inferior rectal a. off internal pudendal a.
Anastomosis to bypass common iliac a.
Superior rectal and middle rectal a.s, combining inf. mesenteric a. and internal iliac a.
Innervation of rectum
through inferior hypogastric and rectal plexuses: Postgang symps coming from lumbars, parasymps coming from sacral
