Relative formula mass and moles Flashcards
Relative atomic mass
The mass number (bigger number) found on the periodic table is the same as the relative atomic mass of that element
Relative formula mass
Adding up all the relative atomic masses in a compound
Law of conservation of mass
It states that atoms cannot be made or lost in a chemical reaction
What is a mole
A mole of anything always contains the same number of atoms, molecules or ions. A mole is the relative atomic mass in grams
What is Avogadro’s number
6.02 x 10^23
Why are moles useful
Atoms are too small to weigh out individually but we can weigh out a mole of something. Because a mole of something always has the same number of atoms or molecules in it, we can weigh out equal numbers of different substances.
Moles formula
Moles=Mass/RFM
