Q

What is the trend of reactivity in group 1 metals

A

It increases down the group because the shells increase, and the outer electron gets further out from the nucleus. This means that the attraction between the outer shell electron and the nucleus is weaker.

Q

What is a displacement reaction?

A

A displacement reaction is one where the less reactive metal is displaced by a more reactive one in a compound. the more reactive metal will form a metal salt whereas the less reactive metal will turn from a salt to a metal. For example, Zinc+Iron sulphate > Zinc sulphate+Iron
