P4 pt3 Flashcards
What is the difference between displacement and distance?
Distance is a scalar while displacement is a vector
What are the typical values for walking cycling and running speeds?
Walking=1.5m/s
Running=3m/s
Cycling=6m/s
What is the speed of sound?
330m/s
What is the equation for speed?
SDT Speed=distance/time
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
The velocity of an object is its speed in a given direction. Velocity is a vector
How can we calculate the speed/acceleration of an object from a distance-time graph?
The speed/acceleration of an object can be calculated from the gradient of a distance-time graph
What is the equation for acceleration?
AVT Acceleration=Velocity/change in time
What do the symbols in the equation v^2-u^2= 2xaxs
v= final velocity
u=Initial velocity
a=acceleration
s=distance travelled
What happens to the force of air resistance when an object travels faster?
The air resistance increases
If an object is falling, why does it reach terminal velocity?
As an object falls, it accelerates and its velocity increases. This means that air resistance increases. When air resistance is equal to the weight of an object, the forces are balanced. The resultant force will then be 0 and the object will no longer accelerate and move at its terminal velocity
