Pro-inflammatory cytokines Flashcards
1
Q
Which cytokines are pro-inflammatory?
A
-IL-1 (activates endothelium to express adhesion molecules, so immune cells can migrate), Il-2, IL-6, IL-8;
- TNF-alpha—secreted by macrophages; stimulates macrophages, recruits neutrophils, and causes lymphocyte proliferation
- –TNF-alpha inhibitors=Infliximab, Adalimumab
- IFN-gamma
- PGE2 (pain)
- Endogenous pyrogens: IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alpha and PGE2
- –IL-1 and TNF-a released by macrophages🡪they increase COX activity in hypothalamus🡪hypothalamus releases PGE2🡪increased temp set point
