Prac 5: Lymphoid Oncology Flashcards
Five cause of generalised lymph node enlargement?
Multicentric lymphoma, granumlomatous lymphadenitis, generalised inflammatory conditions, leishmaniasis/ehrliciosis, fungal infections
What does lymphoma look like histologically?
Sheets of neoplastic cells that exhibit relatively little variation in shape or size
What makes a lymphoma case a good candidate for chemo?
No haematological or biochem abnormalities, so no evidence of bone marrow involvement or metabolic complications
DDx for anterior mediastinal mass?
Anterior mediastinal/thymic lymphoma, thymoma, anterior mediatinal lymphadenopathy, heart base tumour in dog, ectopic thyroid carcinoma
Ddx for abdominal mass in elderly cat?
Intestinal/mesenteric lymphoma, intestinal adenocarcinoma
How can you distinguish stem cells (small) from small lymphocytes?
Stem cells have smooth, light chromatin
WHich markers show primitive B cells?
CD79a and CD34
How can you distinguish stage V lymphoma from acute leukaemia?
CD34 - only expressed in acute leukaemia
When are high globulins polyclonal and when are they monoclonal?
Polyclonal in infections, monoclonal in myeloma
How does calcium cause nephrogenic DI?
Inhibits ADH
Most common cause of hyperCa in the dog?
Lymphoma
How do non-epitheliotropic lymphomas respond to chemo?
Well
How do epitheliotropic lymphomas respond to chemo?
Poorly, but slower in onset
What is the T cell receptor anigen?
CD3
How do you tell apart a histiocytoma and an epitheliotropic T cell lymphoma?
Histiocytoma would be negative for CD3 and positive for dendritic cell markers
